The new model for employee training needs to align with the today’s new workforce. The new workforce is a lot more tech savvy. It expects to receive a lot more information, but in much smaller chunks. We call the change in training style the “Twitter and Facebook effect”. The new workforce expects more graphical information and shorter sessions. To effectively deliver training to the new workforce, it is important to make sure that the training uses graphics and includes video and pictures. Training needs to be done in much shorter segments that are more consistent with the information the employees are accustomed to receiving.
The system should also help to identify when training is needed. For example, if a work instruction on the shop floor has changed and a certain employee has not seen that instruction since the last time he has worked it, the system should prompt the user that something has changed. The system should also ask if the employee would like to review an instruction and it should offer ways to receive training if the user needs help.
At the end of the day, in order to compete in today’s digital manufacturing revolution, companies must find a solution to integrate all interfaces into one digital thread.
