Sneak Preview: Our Presentation at the PTC Live Global Conference

manufacturing execution systemsThere is less than two weeks now until the big PTC Live Global Conference (it’s happening June 15-18 in Boston) where iBASEt’s own VP of Product Marketing and Alliances, Conrad Leiva, has been invited to speak about the current state – and future of – product engineering and manufacturing execution systems in complex, highly regulated industries like aerospace, shipbuilding, nuclear and more. His presentation is called, “The 3D Model-Based Enterprise Value Chain – Integrating Manufacturing, Suppliers and Aftermarket Services” and it’s happening at 4:45 pm in room 105.

This is exciting stuff – our building is buzzing with activity as we prepare for the conference – and we are hoping to see you there, too! In today’s blog, we want to give you a sneak preview of what you can expect from Conrad’s presentation in Boston:

1. Reintegrating product engineering with manufacturing execution. We all know that in an effort to reduce costs, many manufacturers in our industries have relocated or completely outsourced manufacturing operations. All too often, this has left product engineers in one place trying to coordinate, advise and influence disparate shop floors in different time zones – if they are even able to assess the impact of their design changes on the supply chain, manufacturing and service operations. At Solumina, we know that engineering doesn’t stop when the blueprints are finalized and sent off to the shop. Product engineers need to stay abreast of the ways in which their skull sweat affects processes and operations so they can provide their uniquely valuable input and management perspective – to say nothing of continuing to learn and iterate for better, more efficient designs in the future.

2. Closing communications gaps across the value chain. Communications between suppliers, shop floor workers, engineers and management are difficult enough when everyone is together in the same manufacturing complex. When communication needs to happen across different geographical regions and a panoply of different companies, private outfits and firms, it becomes extraordinarily complicated – kind of like that old brain-breaking n-body problem engineers had to grapple with in college.
Getting everyone to talk to each other shouldn’t be as difficult as astrophysics – and in fact, there are many intuitive technological solutions available to help coordinate discrete entities up- and downstream in the value chain. This ensures that Engineering has visibility on (and an open line of communication to) the shop floors where their product designs are becoming reality – no matter where those shops are situated or who is executing the manufacturing processes.
